Songwriting

I started singing at the age of six, traveling and singing throughout the Midwest with a group called The Mid-America Children's Choir.  That passion for music continued through my high school years where I asked for my first guitar as my high school graduation present.  Teaching myself how to play, I started performing in and around town through my college years at Southeast Missouri State University - which is also where I really started writing songs.  In 1994, I auditioned and was picked to be a part of a select group of 25 Missouri vocalists that toured through seven countries in Europe (The Missouri Ambassadors of Music). It was an incredible experience that I will never forget! After graduating with a degree in Advertising, I really started focusing on my music career and played anywhere and everywhere I could.  In 1998 and 1999 I released three songs to country radio, got the taste of the touring life and gained the interest of a dear friend in the music industry, Doug Howard.  Doug was with Lyric Street Records at the time and encouraged me to move to Nashville and pursue a career.  I give him all the credit of getting me to make this move!  Once in town, I really started to understand the concept of co-writing and fell in love with that aspect of music.

Sitting in a room with a friend or someone you just meet. Talking about life. The good, the bad and everything in between. Hearing something that makes your ear perk up. That is what songwriting is to me. I love finding that idea that is a great hook and then chasing a lyric in my mind to create something magical. I have so much to learn about songwriting, but I am blessed to have had the privilege to write with some amazing hit writers who drive me to keep doing this and keep striving for that great song...that hit that I don't yet have, but will. Here's just a few examples of some of the songs I've written. Hope you enjoy!
